Brooks Automation Announces Handheld RFID Reader for the replacement of Barcode Scanner
Germany based Brooks Automation recently announced its new RFID Reader THR, an easy to operate read device. It is specially designed for users changing from Barcode to RFID. Those users are provided with a reader easy to install and individually to configure, which is ready for immediate use. Already after connecting the data cable to the PC, the device reads data and displays it in an input field or text document.
The device communicates with passive tags using the frequencies LF 125 kHz/134.2 kHz or HF 13.56 MHz. It is available with a USB 2.0 or PS2 interface. When using USB, the reader is directly connected to the PC, while, when using PS2, it links the PC and the keyboard.
Upon pushing a button the read process is initiated. A successful identification is indicated by a signal or a flashing LED. Depending on the used frequency and type of transponder, the device reaches reading ranges from 3 to 20cm.... Read more...

SkyeTek Introduces Security Solution for RFID Tags
Unlike many RFID reader offerings rely on tag manufacturers to provide security for RFID tag memory, Westminster, Colorado based SkyeTek introduces advanced RFID readers that implement security onto generic tags. The solution allows customers to switch RFID tags without finacial penalty. The results are immediate cost savings as well as long-term investment protection by allowing customers to switch tags without penalty.
According to SkyeTek, this solution allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and product designers to control their own security requirements and achieves the highest level of security in the industry while maintaining the lowest cost for customers.
Currently some tag manufacturers provide little or no tag security while others with the security features are priced with a premium. "Most companies consider security as an afterthought, but at SkyeTek security is a priority and we integrate innovative security capabilities into both HF and UHF readers," says Rob Balgley, CEO of SkyeTek. As part of a full security solution, SkyeTek supports several proprietary encryption algorithms that are generally tailored to provide enhanced security for... Read more...

Advanced ID Applauds U.S. NHTSAs Consumer Advisory on Tire Safety
Advanced ID Corporation, a leading developer of RFID technology for livestock tracking, pet recovery and supply chain applications, with a focus on tire management, applauds the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) recent Consumer Advisory on the dangers of aged tires. On June 2, NHTSA kicked off the summer driving season with a warning to motorists to check their tires -- including the spare - for signs of wear, under-inflation and age. The season's heat, especially in hot climates, can take its toll on worn, old or improperly inflated tires leading to tread separations, crashes and rollovers, the advisory said.
"We believe that NHTSA's consumer advisory on tire safety is going to have a significant affect on the rubber manufacturers - this is the first time the U.S. government has taken a public position on the issue," said Dan Finch, President and CEO of Advanced ID. "We have been actively supporting tire safety by consulting with and encouraging the tire industry to adopt the RFID as a solution to identifying, tracking and measuring tires from manufacture to scrap. Our global partners around the... Read more...
