Ekahau, Inc. a leading provider of Wi-Fi based Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) today announced that Royal Victoria site in The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland has selected Ekahau to keep track of vital equipment.
“After evaluating a number of location solutions, Ekahau RTLS, with its use of our existing Wi-Fi network, accuracy and extensive features, convinced us to put the installation in motion. We believe it will quickly prove itself by helping the Cardiology and Radiology departments reduce the cost of monitoring inventory that is required for urgent patient care. It also helps us improve the availability of these devices enhancing the services provided to our patients. ” said Paul Duffy, IT manager at the Royal Hospitals.
Following a comprehensive Wi-Fi site survey, Ekahau’s RTLS will use the hospital’s existing Trapeze Networks wireless infrastructure, which is currently being used for mobile data connectivity and voice applications. Within each floor of the Phase 1 building at The Royal Victoria Hospital, Ekahau RTLS will track such assets as defibrillators, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, balloon pumps, ultrasound scanners and patient monitors, which are both expensive and mission critical medical tools in the Cardiology and Radiology departments.
Ekahau has currently installed its Ekahau Positioning Engine version 4.0, along with the Ekahau suite of applications, namely Ekahau Tracker and Ekahau Finder. Ekahau has also provided T201 and T301 Tags for attachment to target equipment.
The aim is to present the tagged equipment’s location graphically with potential use in conjunction with the clinical staff’s requirements, lab’s call-logging, service report and inventory databases to improve response times. Added value to the project is provided by the ability to import text into the database related to the location of material. This ensures quick follow up on both availability of resources, their location, status and need for maintenance.
Ekahau RTLS solution enables such award winning features as the ability to locate equipment with a room accuracy, to present last known location, the logging of specific area movements such as exit and entry to the tracked building and the ability to send commands to the T201 and T301 Tag – Led / Buzzers.
