European Project discusses Legal Aspects of RFID

RFID applications need to comply with various national and European regulations, such as radio regulations and product safety rules (CE certificates). Yet, some legal questions are still open, for instance data security or the recycling of transponders. Deutsche Post World Net invites experts to a workshop on the legal aspects of RFID at the GS1 Global Office in Brussels on February 28th. Within the European project CE RFID Deutsche Post World Net and the other project partners have surveyed and analysed the current regulatory issues: privacy and security, standardisation and radio spectrum, intellectual property rights, as well as labour and environment protection. Thereby, a special focus was put on data security and data protection. In the workshop the intermediate results of the analysis and recommendations for future regulatory actions will be presented and discussed with RFID stakeholders.
