Tweet me!UPM Raflatac has manufactured and supplied 100 million RFID inlays to mass transit ticketing applications globally. The landmark figure was reached in early 2008 with a delivery lot to Moscow Metro in Russia.
Several other mass transit operators and partners approached UPM Raflatac during the Moscow Metro implementation. They, too, are benefiting from the adoption of high-quality RaceTrack HF products. The number of inlays supplied in 2007 makes UPM Raflatac the global market leader in limited-use RFID mass transit ticketing.
Both underground and surface transportation systems all over the world use contactless RFID smart cards and tickets to significantly speed up passenger entry and to enable better overall management of fares, security and anti-counterfeiting.
"Mass transit ticketing has been confirmed to be the biggest application area for HF RFID inlays. To support growing demand, UPM Raflatac is starting RFID tag and inlay production in Guangzhou, China later this year. The new manufacturing site will further strengthen our number one tag supplier position globally," comments Mr Samuli Strömberg, Vice President of RFID Marketing at UPM Raflatac.
