TOSHIBA TEC Next Generation RFID modules for Europe PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 06 June 2008

TOSHIBA TEC Europe demonstrated a continued commitment to innovation and industry leadership with the European release of its new and ultra-fast RFID modules for Auto ID label printers.

TOSHIBA TEC UHF RFID modules operate under EPC Gen 2 UHF technology standards. The advantages: global interoperability, the ability to optimise performance in different global regulatory environments, read/write field programmability, faster tag read/write rates, the ability to operate in dense reader environments, and migration to future EPC classes.

All TOSHIBA TEC RFID ready printers can easily be fitted with the new RFID kits to fully protect the investment of current users.

On top of our standard RFID features, TOSHIBA TEC adds two new innovations and one other major advantage with the release of the second generation RFID kits: Gray Area Detection, SPRiNT Gen 2 Printing and a data processing performance double that of the previous kits.

Angel de Juan, European Director, Auto ID Division, said: "The TOSHIBA TEC RFID-ready label printers form a unique and powerful solution; they empower supply chain operations to meet existing and upcoming customer-driven RFID mandates without the need for software or hardware modifications to the printer."

"Leveraging our in-house technology to deliver high-performance, high-productivity products helps our customers meet and exceed their strategic objectives," he added.

The smart combination of different Toshiba technologies delivers quality, product longevity and security to customers worldwide.

TOSHIBA TEC is one of the few global technology vendors that still design, create, manufacture and deliver technology solutions down to component-level in-house.

Gray Area Detection (Patent pending)

Tags that operate perfectly well in a printer environment sometimes do not have the performance to operate throughout the whole supply chain. The new TOSHIBA TEC RFID module measures the reflected power of the tag and ensures that only the tag that meets the set requirements will be programmed.

In a situation where the reflected power output of the RFID tag is too low to be reliably detected by RFID readers, the printer treats such tags as void and marks them as non-functioning.

TOSHIBA TEC printers enable 'gray area detection' and help decrease the field error rate in a live situation.

SPRiNT Gen 2 (Patent pending)

TOSHIBA TEC Europe devised its unique Short Pitch RFID Encoding Technology (SPRiNT) to accelerate RFID-based business processes to help guarantee customer satisfaction and empower organisations with the right resources to work within set Service Level Agreements.

TOSHIBA TEC Europe's unique SPRiNT technology introduced in 2005, caused a revolution. Now, we introduce another major leap forward.

When a tag is underneath the print head, it is virtually impossible to program the tag correctly. Therefore the tag needs to be at a set distance from the printer to be programmed properly.

To increase the throughput for short-pitch labels when processing large batches of labels, the TOSHIBA TEC Auto ID printers first write data onto one RFID tag, moves this label to its print position, then writes data onto the next tag while printing the first tag until the end of the entire batch.

SPRiNT Gen 2 realises a significant higher throughput of short pitch labels when producing large batches of RFID tags - hereby dramatically reducing the cost of implementation for particular RFID applications. The average throughput is estimated to be 2.5 times faster with the TOSHIBA TEC RFID kit fitted Auto ID printers.

"Mach 2" RFID data processing

The TOSHIBA TEC RFID module significantly increases the overall throughput for standard label applications. In tests, the time required to encode the tags have been shown to have halved.

The TOSHIBA TEC UHF RFID kit for the B-SA4 label printer is available now throughout Europe; the UHF RFID modules for the other TOSHIBA TEC B-SX printer range will be available from June onwards.
