MIKOH Launches Smart and Secure Warehouse PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 August 2008

MIKOH Corporation recently introduced Smart&Secure Warehouse, a packaged solution that delivers physical security and tamper evidence for inventory management and advanced RFID applications within warehouse and distribution center environments.

Smart&Secure Warehouse combines MIKOH's Smart&Secure platform with its SecureContainer and SecureEnclosure technologies to address physical security vulnerabilities associated with RFID across warehouse and distribution center applications. As RFID adoption grows, the threat of inventory theft and tampering multiplies due to increased process automation and decreased manual interaction and verification. Smart&Secure Warehouse delivers physical security certainty while optimizing warehouse and distribution center operations.

RFID streamlines warehouse and distribution center operations, including inventory management and value-add applications such as track and trace from shipping, receiving and various warehouse staging areas; dynamic shelf allocation and smart shelf systems; chain of custody verification; quality assurance certainty; lean manufacturing and Six Sigma optimization; just-in-time (JIT) delivery models; and cataloging long-term storage and archiving.

MIKOH Smart&Secure Warehouse alleviates uncertainty for RFID applications by validating the unique relationship between an RFID tag and the product/container to which it is attached. The solution creates a tamper evident seal that disables RFID functionality if a tag is removed or compromised. A more advanced version alerts an RFID reader that the tag has been compromised without disabling RFID functionality, enabling the ongoing retrieval of data stored on the tag.

"Smart&Secure Warehouse empowers organizations to take a proactive stance against theft and tampering, ensuring assets are not compromised or removed from inventory unnoticed," said Andrew Strauch, vice president of product marketing and management for MIKOH. "In addition, organizations can verify quality assurance and chain of custody by sealing inventory leaving its facilities with Smart&Secure Warehouse technologies. If the Smart&Secure seal is compromised, recipients know with certainty that tampering has occurred between the warehouse and final delivery."

Smart&Secure Warehouse is enhanced with MIKOH's SecureContainer technology, a reusable container featuring a unique closure system. Disposable plastic inserts slide into the container doors to secure all contents with a single Smart&Secure RFID tag. Because the seal only makes contact with the disposable plastic inserts, no cleanup is needed before reuse, making the process fast and easy.

Larger facilities can incorporate MIKOH's SmartEnclosure system to seal larger containers and storage rooms. The system is based on intellectual property licensed from the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) consisting of reusable housings that bolt onto existing transport containers or storage doors. Disposable plastic inserts slide into the housings to create a seal, which can then be secured by Smart&Secure RFID tags.
