Norfolk rollout RFID across the County

E-mail Print

Intellident are pleased to announce the County-wide installation of RFID self-service into Norfolk County Council. The project to supply 48 libraries with a combination of smartServe and Paragon self-service kiosks, staff workstations, handheld stock management applications and modular return units, commenced earlier this month.

Prior to rollout, Intellident and Norfolk County Council performed an initial trial of self-service equipment, installing a staff station desk into a small library and two self-service kiosks into the new Poringland library. Significantly, within 3 weeks over 90 percent of transactions were performed using the self-service equipment, which remained consistent over the 3 month period that the trial was conducted. Subsequent to a successful pilot of the self-service solutions and staff stations into two more libraries, the project team have now begun installing staff stations into 48 of the libraries and self-service kiosks into 24 of them In addition, Intellident will provide stock management handheld units, smart labels and a chip and PIN payment solution

Fran Valentine, Manager at Downham Market says of the project: "We are extremely pleased with how the installation is progressing. We are now into week six of using our RFID kiosks at Downham Market. Our large counter has been replaced with three RFID kiosks and a small two-level desk equipped with staff stations. The library definitely appears more open and spacious".

Now that work has commenced towards the completion of the county wide rollout, Norfolk library members will soon have the ability to borrow, renew and return items without the need to directly interact with staff, freeing them to allow for more time to be spent helping to supporting patrons. Cromer, Sheringham and Wroxham have now successfully gone live with RFID self-service, with each library realising over 90 percent self-service uptake.

"Due to the efforts of all the staff working in the branches that have gone live with self-service we are seeing some great self service uptake figures." Reports Ian McCann from Norfolk County Council, "Going live with self-service can be a challenging process both for staff and customers and the figures are a great testament to the work that is being carried out in the self-service branches to change customer habits and deliver our service in a different way".

Jim Hopwood, Managing Director for Intellident, says of the rollout: "Intellident are working closely with Norfolk County Council to ensure each library receives the tailored implementation that they need. Our team of specialists have built a strong working relationship with staff members, which has allowed for them to adapt the solution into exactly what they require and contribute to the system designs. We are extremely happy with the outcome of the project and delighted to working with the teams at Norfolk."
