Intellident Introduces smartBlade to Detect RFID Tags for Media Tracking PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 18 September 2008

Intellident's smartBlade system has been designed to detect RFID tags affixed directly to individual products, informing users of the precise location of items on a shelf. Through the use of a patented antenna design smartBlade can determine the position of any tagged product within a library to the nearest 30cm. In addition, the system can recognise when new products are placed on shelf or removed from it.

Unique in its design each blade is entirely modular and unobtrusive, with the option to fix directly to standard 1, 1.2m and 1.4m library shelves, or discretely clip on to merchandising equipment. The system comes with individual flashing LED detection, to highlight where on shelf the item is located or alert when stock is running low. Affordable and 100% accurate, the new smartBlade could prove a highly effective marketing and merchandising tool for companies operating within any sector.

smartBlade eliminates the need for staff to perform manual or hand-held stock checks, providing 100% accurate real-time inventory of what is on the shelf at the touch of a button. The current version can not only be used to provide immediate product location, but is a reliable means of assessing current stock levels, alerting of when product visibility is low and tracking customer behaviour.

Darren Ratcliffe, Director of Smart Media for Intellident, says of the solution: "The smartBlade system creates total on-shelf item visibility for library users. By affixing blades to each shelf users are provided with the option to browse shelf content or perform a stock check. The key benefit that this application provides is the ability to ensure each item is where it should be, meaning all patrons can easily locate all stocked items."

smartBlade will be available towards the end of 2008, but visitors to the Test and Innovation centre can receive live demonstrations of the product and its functionality.
