Time Domain Corporation, a company who offers precision ultra wideband (UWB) real-time location systems (RTLS), made available its Precision Location Ultra Wideband System (PLUS)TM Proximity Zone Pak, an evaluation kit for developing UWB RTLS solutions. Included in this evaluation kit are 10 PLUS Asset Tags with a four-year battery life, either an easy-to-install 2' x 2' PLUS Ceiling Tile Antenna or a PLUS Small Form Factor Antenna, a PLUS 1.0 Reader and a PLUS Reader Power Supply.
The PLUS Proximity Zone Pak allows users to monitor critical assets in real-time using presence detection or proximity tracking. A single PLUS Reader will report all the tags that it hears, up to 3,500 per second, providing zone presence to the physical (X, Y) reader location. A single PLUS Reader can monitor up to 35,000 square feet in open environments with no walls (line-of-sight.) In indoor multi-walled environments, a single reader can monitor up to 3,000 square feet. No special software is needed. A PLUS Reader can be addressed on a standard IP network, either via a wired connection or through your own wireless hub.
The PLUS product line makes use of the company's patented UWB technology, which enables RTLS solutions to move from an "approximate presence" technology to a solution that precisely locates and monitors the interaction of people and assets for a host of new retail, manufacturing, healthcare and security applications. Unlike other RFID RTLS technologies such as UHF, Zigbee Wi-Fi, PLUS' 6.4 GHz UWB pulse-based technology emits a burst of extremely short pulses once every second which, when read and processed by a time difference of arrival (TDOA) algorithm, provides as close as 12 inches of accuracy in 2-D and multi-floor environments. This short pulse approach also provides precise location accuracy in "noisy" indoor environments where wiring and metal fixtures are often problematic for other RTLS systems.
With high update rates, long battery life and high simultaneous tag capacity, Time Domain's PLUS is ideally designed for enterprise location solutions.
