McKenna adds Technology Strategist Dan Caprio

Daniel Caprio - a nationally recognized thought-leader in technology policy - has joined the Government Affairs practice at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP as Managing Director. Caprio will provide guidance to clients, particularly in the areas of RFID, data and information privacy, and cyber security.

Caprio brings nearly 25 years of practical policy experience to issues involving the convergence of the internet, telecommunications and technology policy. Globally recognized for his understanding of the global implications of emerging technologies, Caprio is a frequent speaker at the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).


"I've worked with Dan for a number of years and am thrilled to have him join MLA," said Doug Farry, a member of the firm's Federal Government Affairs team and head of MLA's RFID practice. "Our clients will benefit from his strategic insight and applied experience implementing privacy laws, policies and practices at the federal level."

From 2004-2006 Caprio advised the Under Secretary for Technology, the Secretary of Commerce, and the White House on technology policy issues and privacy protection in the digital age while he served as Chief Privacy Officer for the Department of Commerce, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, and Acting Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy.

Caprio joins the national team of MLA's Government Affairs practice which includes a number of widely respected attorneys and professionals including Gordon Giffin, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada; Eric Tanenblatt, longtime advisor to the late U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell; former Governor Howard Dean; former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense at DOD and Congressman Paul McHale; former Congressmen Buddy Darden, Senior Policy Advisor to House Majority Leader Armey Doug Farry; former Mayor of Indianapolis Steve Goldsmith; former senior Clinton White House officials Marcia Hale and Keith Mason; former chief counsel to the House Ways and Means Committee Joe Dowley; and Cindy Gillespie, senior counselor to Governor Mitt Romney.
