At CeBIT, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS will unveil how their wireless asset tracking system made the tire manufacturing facility at Continental instantly more efficient, while virtually eliminating any and all quality control issues once deployed.
Furthermore the company will showcase wireless asset management solutions on site at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany. Dubbed as the world’s largest IT fair, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS will be offering demonstrations, case study analysis and information sessions on the latest additions to its technology portfolio – including INTELLIFIND RTLS.
Visitors can learn why German tire maker Continental relies on a highly unique and specific solution in its production facility in Aachen. Additionally IDENTEC SOLUTIONS will offer valuable insights and information into how the deployment of INTELLIFIND RTLS immediately enhanced visibility of Continental tire carcass inventory while enabling better control, and enhanced quality and production times.
Continental carcasses in the Spotlight
At Continental, a tires framework, or in “industry speak” the carcasses, are stored on a carcass carriage or trolley. When required, vehicles that were holding the needed carcasses were sought out by the transporter, and then fed to the respective tire construction equipment. "The manual search process was time consuming and labor intensive," states Gerhard Schedler, President & CEO, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS. "Moreover, the tires could not be processed according to FIFO, a first in - first out principle, which resulted in stale inventory and rejected materials.
The introduction of the INTELLIFIND RTLS and its integrated 360 degree LED system produced immediate relief. Carriers now received clear information from the administrative system on which carcass carriages were needed and were able to isolate the location down to one meter. "Both search times as well as the idle times of the machines were eliminated," furthers Schedler. "With this enhanced visibility and control, the FIFO production principle was attained, which resulted in optimized storage times of the carcasses thereby delivering immediate quality control gains." In addition to the introduction of INTELLIFIND RTLS, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS will be presenting two new product lines; a range of active RFID components based on ISO 18000-7 standard, as well as the latest generation of the proven iQ line.
"The reason we developed ISO certified transponders, mobile handheld readers and reading stations was so we could offer a product line that met an internationally recognized standard," said Gerhard Schedler. The largest user of the ISO 18000-7 products is the U.S. Department of Defense, which is also the world's largest consumer of active RFID technology.
The newly developed ILR 350 products deliver a proven communication range of up to 500 meters, offering more opportunities in the areas of sensoring and safety - and the ILR line is fully compatible with RTLS components. “The increasingly popular marker technology is already integrated in the tags,” Schedler comments. "We are the first company that offers pick-by-light with 360-degree LED."
Applications that would instantly benefit include vehicle tracking, industrial production, personnel safety, port logistics, and areas that require temperature monitoring.
