Melexis, an early semiconductor player in the RFID market, announced today it’s participation as co-chair of the newly formed Automotive Working Group within the DASH7 Alliance , a non-profit industry consortium that promotes the use of the ISO 18000-7 standard for wireless sensor networking. As an active member of the DASH7 Alliance, Melexis works closely with more than 50 organizations around the world to advance development of the ISO 18000-7 (DASH7) standard.
“DASH7’s potential for automotive applications like tire pressure monitoring or other in-vehicle wireless communications is tremendous,” said Patrick Burns, President of the DASH7 Alliance. “By collaborating closely with a leader like Melexis to not only bring these applications to life but also to build the automotive ecosystem within the DASH7 Alliance, we are breaking important ground in one of the largest sensor markets on the planet.”
The company’s mission as co-chair for the DASH7 Automotive Working Group will be to craft a multi-year roadmap for bringing DASH7 into a variety of automotive applications and markets.
“There is a great potential for DASH7 technology in the automotive area” said Gilles Cerede, Product Line Manager for Wireless Automotive & Sensing at Melexis. “We see a perfect fit between DASH7 features and performance and the requirements of wireless safety applications. For example the ultra low power consumption matches the TPMS life time constraints, while the “multi-kilometer” communication range is perfectly suited for car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure applications. Last but not least, DASH7 is compatible from a frequency point of view with existing Remote Keyless Entry systems..”
