IDS Microchip, an innovative semiconductor company focused on RFID and sensor solutions, today began shipping first production parts of its new RFID sensory tag chip, the SL900A. Based on the popular EPC Gen2 standard for supply chain applications, this new single-chip enables vast new applications such as supply and cold chain with dynamic shelf-life monitoring, tracking history and condition of constructions, controlling and recording of medication, process control in factory automation, and remote metering and supervision.
The SL900A can automatically track, monitor, time-stamp and record sensory information, which typically include temperature, pressure, humidity and vibration. However, unlike any other RFID solution, it also can be configured to automatically execute an alarm or notification when critical conditions occur. This event-driven capability enables various applications in the cold chain, pharmaceutical, and food and health industries, as well as applications in the construction industry, and makes it possible to determine the conditions of materials used, in an economical, non-invasive and practical way.
SL900A is available in 16-LD QFN (5x5 mm) or as DoW (dice on wafer). Development kits emulating a complete system with demo soft- and firmware with source codes are available on request. IDS Microchip will demonstrate the new SL900A at Euro ID 2011 (booth C14) in Berlin, Germany, 5-7 April, and at RFID Journal LIVE! 2011 in Orlando, Florida, April 12-14.
