EROWA utilizes RFID for Tool Identification and Positioning in Robotic MagazinesThe company EROWA AG, headquartered in Buron / Switzerland produces high quality machine tools. In addition to the products areas clamping systems and  measurement systems innovative loading systems for CNC machines are built. The changeover and setup times are the greatest threat to the efficient use of machinery.

To minimize these times, an RFID system for tool or pallet recognition was developed in magazines robot together with the German-based scemtec Transponder Technology GmbH. The "EROWA EWIS Rapid" called system consists of a multi-channel RFID Reader RFID antennas, each with a per channel.

scemtec Stationary RFID antenna SAT-AF-P-125khzEach tool in the rotating robot magazine contains a 125 kHz transponder which is read from a stationary RFID antenna when passing. For each level, a separate RFID reader channel is used with an associated antenna. Thus, all levels can be simultaneously and independently of each other recognized.

Through this application of RFID technology, enormous quantities of pallets are identified and evaluated independently of each other in less than 25 seconds. A comfortable web interface is available for equipment test and service of multi-channel RFID reader.
