Hi-G-Tek and NTC Design Wireless RFID Cargo Security System for Customs Control Agency of Kazakhstan
Tuesday, 08 April 2008
Hi-G-Tek a leading developer of RFID sensing and control solutions for tracking high-value cargo and sensitive materials, provided its technology platform to Kazakhstani-based systems integrator, Science Technical Center (NTC) ,to implement a cargo monitoring system for the Customs Control Agency (CCA) of Kazakhstan. NTC designed and installed a solution around Hi-G-Teks integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) cargo monitoring technology at several major Kazakhstani border checkpoints between China and Russia. The Automatic Delivery Control System (ADCS) is used by the CCA to secure the 4000-mile journey against black market theft, with the intent of increasing commercial cargo traffic and associated customs tariff revenues.

3M advances in RFID on a broad front
Friday, 04 April 2008

The giant corporation 3M is advancing in RFID on a broad front. It is one of the leading RFID system integrators in libraries, where it has tended to use Texas Instruments HF inlays that are not yet printed, and its balls with self levelling RFID tags in them for location and identity are buried along the length of gas and other pipelines in the USA and are starting to perform a similar function in China - see our article China repositions in RFID and prints more Part 2.

RFID tape and printed RFID

The 3M project to provide location for snow plows and other vehicles by RFID tape alongside freeways was abandoned some years ago but 3M has a major program to print RFID labels using reel to reel printed transistors and antennas. In this division, the printed electronics activities encompass:

  • Logic organic
  • Memory
  • Other components
  • Printing inkjet
  • RFID
  • Production machinery

Mu-Gahat Launches Custom UHF RFID Inlay Design and Low-Volume Production Service
Thursday, 03 April 2008

Mu-Gahat provides more rapid RFID tag time to market for label converters, integrators, design engineers and end users.

Mu-Gahat officially launched today by announcing its revolutionary custom RFID inlay design service, low-volume production minimums, and stock inlay line.

“Label converters, integrators, design engineers, and frustrated end-users have needed a solution for rapid prototyping and low-medium volume RFID production for quite some time. Our research showed that many customers do not need millions of inlays at a time. Mu-Gahat has developed specialized processes and equipment designed to meet today’s prototyping and just-in-time production requirements.” said Baxter Watkins, CEO.

Since RFID tags often detune when attached to objects, the ability to test actual, individual tag variations is imperative to ensure that a theoretical design performs optimally in its real-world environment. Mu-Gahat inlays can be custom tuned to meet specific application and frequency requirements.

CISC extends its RFID simulation platform supporting EPCglobal HF AI standard
Wednesday, 02 April 2008
CISC Semiconductor - a design and consulting company for industries which develop microelectronic systems - is extending its simulation library platform to support product vendors and system integrators in design and evaluation of RFID products and systems based on the new EPCglobal HF AI protocol.

Technology demonstrations hosted by EPCglobalTM in spring 2006 compared the performance of passive high frequency (HF) and ultra high frequency (UHF) tags in order to show advantages of either HF or UHF for various application requirements.
