The Republic of Kosovo has chosen Giesecke & Devrient to manufacture and deliver its multifunctional, electronic, and entirely contactless smart ID cards. As prime contractor, the Munich-based technology company is assuming responsibility for all aspects of project management as well as for system development and manufacture of the cards.
Sub-contractor for the Automated Fingerprint Inspection System (AFIS) and for the smartcard personalization machinery is Berlin-based Bundesdruckerei GmbH. G&D is also in charge of implementing and structuring all system components necessary to support every step in the ID documentation process, from applying for a card to delivering it. These new ID cards, which the Republic of Kosovo will begin issuing to its citizens by the end of this year, are among the most up-to-date smart ID cards in use anywhere in the world.
G&D: Over 60 Million Voting Cards for Mexico

Over the next five years, Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is to supply Mexico with over 60 million voting cards. The Instituto Federal Electoral (IFE) is responsible for organizing all of Mexico’s elections. This independent public organization has commissioned the technology group’s Mexican subsidiary Giesecke y Devrient de México S.A. de C.V. (G&D Mexico) to manufacture and personalize the new voting cards. G&D Mexico will establish one card production center and two personalization centers in the country in collaboration with a partner company.

Technology and project support by NXP enables the development of Indonesia’s local smart card industry
NXP has announced at Cards & Payments Singapore that it is near completion of its part of the 172m pieces supplied into the eKTP project. Launched in 2011, the eKTP project is one of the largest national eID deployments across the globe. The eKTP cards for 172 million citizens are part of a nationwide, multi-application, complete eID-system that comprises data capturing solutions, servers, data storage, biometric matching and smart cards, plus various infrastructure and networking solutions.
