Instagram has had the idea of removing the likes counter for two years. Since then, a test phase has been carried out on a global level without generalizing the measurement. However, things seem to be clearing up.
We just learned that the platform is launching a new series of tests so that its users can hide the likes counter on other users’ publications. You can choose the same option for your own account as well. Facebook also announced that it would do the same.
Influencers are more likely to be against this deletion
To explain the delay in this file, Instagram explains that the covid-19 forced the service to review its priorities last year. The work can now continue and the platform is now analyzing the comments that its users have sent to it on this topic. It seems that opinions are very different.
While some are happy to see a reduction in anxiety caused by racing, on the contrary, others still want to take advantage of this data to keep up with trends and the most popular reports. This is especially true for influencers, developers, and marketers for whom this information is invaluable. They also fear that the disappearance of similar items will result in a lower engagement rate that would directly affect their income.
With this new test phase, the duration of which has not been determined, Instagram and Facebook are therefore giving their users more choices. It is carried out worldwide but currently only affects a limited number of accounts. If you are concerned, the new option will be available in the application settings. Note that creators can still see the number of likes even if they want to hide their counter.
As a reminder, in July 2019, Instagram defended its decision to remove the counter by stating, “We want your friends to focus on the photos and videos you share, rather than the number of likes they’ve got. You can still see your own likes by tapping the list of people who liked a post. However, your friends won’t be able to see how many likes your post received. “”
