The German giant Mercedes does not want its compatriots Audi and BMW to develop further in the field of electromobility alone. For this reason, Mercedes is presenting its brand new EQS model today, which for the first time is based on the modular architecture for “luxury and premium electric vehicles”.
The new Mercedes EQS is official!
A new 100% electric Mercedes that claims to be “the most aerodynamic production car in the world”. Mercedes indeed promises to have meticulously worked on the details of the body and to achieve optimal air penetration, a key factor for an autonomy worthy of the name.
“If the EQS is a close relative of the new S-Class, it is still based on a 100% electric architecture. This completely new design made it possible to develop a special concept: With its One Bow lines and its Cab Forward design with tailgate, the EQS differs significantly from vehicles with combustion engines at first glance, ”explains the manufacturer.
The German manufacturer states a range of up to 770 km (according to the WLTP cycle) and an output of up to 385 kW. The new Mercedes EQS promises to meet the drive requirements of an evolving sedan in the S-Class segment. Note that a 560 kW version is also planned. On the battery side, Mercedes is planning an XXL model with 107.8 kWh and scalable software management (via OTA updates) to ensure the longevity of the cells.
The brand new Hyperscreen MBUX can also be used on board, but optionally. This large, curved screen extends almost from one A-pillar to the other. Three screens are placed under a cover glass and optically merged. The passenger’s 12.3-inch OLED screen gives them their own display and control area.
Keep in mind that the company intends to sell more than half of its electric cars by 2030, including 100% electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. For its part, the Mercedes EQS will be available in stores at the beginning of the school year at a price that should be well over € 100,000.
