Apple returns to the topic of chargers that aren’t included

Apple welcomed the decision to remove the charger from the packaging of its iPhone 12. As of September 2020, the Apple brand no longer offers its accessories without financial compensation. With the exception of France, the same policy applies to headphones.

On the occasion of the publication of its 2021 Environmental Progress Report, Apple returned to this topic for the first observations and future estimates. We learn that the brand will save 861,000 tons of copper, zinc and tin, the time it takes to market their smartphone … available in four versions.

The second economy concerns transport efficiency with a capacity of 70% thanks to the smaller packaging size of each iPhone. These boxes, in a greatly reduced format compared to previous iPhones, can be much more numerous on the containers as they are exported from Asia to the various markets in which the iPhone is sold.

According to the report, since 2015 Apple has managed to reduce the volume of single-use plastic in iPhone packaging by 65% over a six-year period. MacBooks have gradually reached 40% recycled components, including the Retina display. In fiscal 2020, 10.4 million Apple devices would have been overhauled.

Soon more plastic in the packaging

The report, published every year by Apple, affirmed its goals for the future. He still talks about being carbon neutral by 2030 for “the entire footprint” including supply chain and product usage. Currently, Apple is betting on recycling its old iPhones, factories, and suppliers, as well as billions of dollars in carbon offsetting.

In addition, Apple plans to completely remove plastic from its packaging in less than five years. It intends to use only recycled and reusable materials for its products and packaging, as well as to reduce water consumption. In short, the report indicates the longevity of the products that will affect leverage.

However, Apple markets millions of smartphones in three or even four versions each year. Currently available on the market: iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone SE. So fewer chargers, a simple ecological intention?
