In September 2019, Nintendo started a certain Mario Kart Tour. A new opus that is eagerly awaited by gamers as it was then the first (and only) Mario Kart designed specifically for terminals on iOS and Android. Keep in mind that the very first Mario Kart was released on a specific Super Nintendo in 1992 and that the saga has been a safe bet for gamers for more than 25 years.

Mario Kart Tour fills up with players (and dollars)
Mario Kart Tour has been available on our phones for 18 months and we have to admit that Nintendo’s game was a huge hit. In fact, not only has the game passed the milestone of 200 million downloads worldwide, but the Nintendo-signed title has generated more than $ 200 million in sales since its inception.
When the download is absolutely free, like many mobile games, Mario Kart Tour takes on in-app purchase functions. And on this subject, we have to admit that Nintendo has hit hard, especially with a monthly subscription system, the Gold Pass, which allows its holder to get more rewards, access to special races and new challenges without having to pay for the precious 200 class to forget.
According to Sensor Tower, Mario Kart Tour generated more than $ 93 million in profit between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. This puts the game in second place among the top-selling mobile phone titles from Nintendo. It is ousted by Fire Emblem Heroes at $ 163 million during the reporting period, but dominates Animal Crossing Pocket Camp ($ 78 million), Dragalia Lost ($ 22 million), and Dr. Mario World (only $ 6 million) revenue dollars.
It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will decide to launch a new episode of its Mario Kart saga on Nintendo Switch, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe being a port of the episode that was released on Wii U a few years earlier.
