Fortnite, the game that was worth billions
According to the documents provided to the court, we learn that the game Fortnite, which originally launched in July 2017, generated huge revenues in 2018 and 2019. Indeed, after experiencing a serious slump at startup before taking inspiration from PUBG and its Batlle Royale mode, Fortnite enabled Epic Games to gross just under $ 10 billion in two years.
In particular, the game grossed $ 5.5 billion in 2018 and $ 3.7 billion the following year. It’s hard to know how much the game brought to the developer in 2020, but we imagine they were actively involved in the company’s $ 5.1 billion in revenue announced last year.
Fortnite has been much more than a simple online video game for a few months now, as it has evolved into a real parallel world where virtual concerts or even feature films in particular take place, not to mention the presence of some stars like Neymar.
