The lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple has revealed a lot of information since it opened, some of which is positive. In fact, we just heard of a novelty that will be coming from Epic Games.
In late March, the video game studio formalized the arrival of Rocket League Sideswipe, a mobile version of the hit game developed by Psyonix and purchased by the company in December 2018. In addition to this simplified version in 2D, we learn today that Epic Games is planning to launch a full version of Rocket League for mobile phones as well.
Another version of Rocket League sideswipe
This information comes from court documents that were presented during the trial and are publicly available. According to these documents, in the future the studio may consider introducing a new version of Rocket League that is compatible with more platforms including smartphones.
It is not yet clear whether this version will be available for iOS or Android or for both. Rocket League is already available for free to PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch players.
While it is difficult to find out more about this new mobile version, it seems to mean that you may come across a mobile gamer while playing on a PC or other platform. As with Fortnite, the level difference between mobile and PC / console players should be clear. A phenomenon that was already observed when Epic Games converted the Rocket League into free-to-play after the takeover.
As for Rocket League Sideswipe, the game should be out soon. Epic Games explains that this version was developed entirely for mobile devices and is different from what we currently know from the Rocket League.
Epic Games has been on trial against Apple since Monday, and many revelations have taken place on both sides. In particular, we learned that Apple would have tried anything to get Netflix to keep in-app payments through the App Store.
