In parallel with Lucid Motors, a Californian brand, Tesla competes in China with NIO, which was launched in 2014 and has just announced its arrival in Europe. The brand unveiled its first international market at a conference on May 6, and its schedule is for first sales in the third quarter of this year.
NIO arrives in Norway, as do the chargers
The use of NIO is no surprise, as the manufacturer had already mentioned the European market in early 2020. For this very important arrival, he decided to leave his suitcases in Norway, where the market has almost completed its transition to electricity and where pieces of the cake can be taken from Tesla.
NIO does not come here as a beginner. 100,000 copies have already been sold in China (including 50,000 in six months). The marketing strategy in Norway is based on that in China and is initially offering the ES8 SUV for sale. The new luxury sedan ET7 will not arrive until 2022.
In a press release, the manufacturer stated: “NIO will set up its sales and service networks directly in Norway. The first NIO store outside of China will officially open in the third quarter at Karl-Johans-Tor, the commercial and cultural center of the city of Oslo. “Next year there will be four more places.
Then the standard for support and service should correspond to that of cars: “The first NIO Norway service and delivery center in Oslo will also open in September. The customer service network will be expanded nationwide in 2022. In order to offer users a first-class service experience in Norway, NIO will offer pick-up and delivery services for mobile devices and cars, ”the statement said.
Finally, when it comes to the charging system, NIO is following in the footsteps of Tesla and its current Chinese strategy. A home network consisting of “NOK Power Swap” is on the agenda. The goal for Norway is to set up enough stations there to connect “the five major cities and highways”.
“NIO will also bring its charging system to Norway. […] NIO intends to create a load map for Europe and introduce its first four NIO power swap stations. NIO expects battery exchange stations in Norway by the end of 2022. “
