As we have explained many times before, Samsung is the clear leader in foldable smartphones. After the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold, the Galaxy Z Flip, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Samsung plans to introduce a Galaxy Z Fold 3 and a Galaxy Z Flip 3 in July.
Oppo arrives in this very young market
The Korean company is not alone in this market, however, and new manufacturers like Oppo are planning a sensational entry. Chinese analyst Machine Arsen just wrote on Weibo (the equivalent of Twitter in China) that Oppo is reportedly pushing a foldable smartphone project. Machine Arsenic even goes so far as to explain that the manufacturer would try to achieve a “female goal” with this upcoming smartphone.
When closed, this phone should be 2 inches and 7 inches when opened. Compared to the existing market, Oppo could therefore present one of the largest foldable smartphones, but also one of the most compact.
The analyst reveals more information about this mysterious phone. For example, we know it should have an LTPO screen with a very high refresh rate. Also note that Oppo has pending a patent for a hinge with rotating gears that allows the phone to bend from different angles like the Galaxy Fold 2.
So far, the foldable smartphones from Samsung, Huawei or even Motorola have been particularly expensive. Oppo is used to offering products at a lower cost. Therefore, the Chinese manufacturer could upset this market by publishing more accessible prices.
In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3, rumors point to the arrival of a brand new foldable smartphone from Samsung. The Korean company could have had the intelligence to anticipate the arrival of Oppo by unveiling an entry-level foldable smartphone.
