Like every Saturday night, the Saturday Night Live show brought millions of Americans together in front of their televisions. However, the May 8, 2021 show was particularly anticipated as Elon Musk himself was invited. Throughout the show, we spotted a particularly laid-back Elon Musk who addressed a variety of topics with a lot of self-irony.
In particular, we have heard him speak of his tweets: “Sometimes I say or tweet strange things,” he also said. But that’s how my brain works. For everyone I’ve offended, I just want to say, “I’ve reinvented electric cars and I’m sending people to Mars on a space shuttle. Did you expect me to be a normal guy? “Or even Dogecoin, which will become the currency of a SpaceX-led lunar mission.
A passage that left no one indifferent
But the statement that most marked the billionaire’s passage on the set of Saturday Night Live is when he talks about his Asperger’s Syndrome. Elon Musk came along claiming to be proud of “being the first person with Asperger’s Syndrome to visit SNL … or at least admit it”.
Asperger’s Syndrome is a pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) that affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. It can be characterized by non-verbal communication and repetitive behaviors, but it can also be very discreet. If Elon Musk’s speech seems solid and encouraging to people with this syndrome, some journalists disagree for the rest of the topics discussed that evening.
Marlow Stern, reporter for The Daily Beast, described Elon Musk’s intervention as “misleading and deeply awkward”. Stern, in particular, returned to what Elon Musk said about his strange tweets. The billionaire has tended to minimize his tweets by bringing it all down to the tone of humor. However, Marlow Stern recalled that the founder of Tesla insulted a diver who saved the lives of children stranded in a cave by “pedophiles” simply because he had duplicated the solution proposed by Elon Musk.
