Signal is positioned as a secure intelligence service and has been recommended by Elon Musk and Edward Snowden. Signal and WhatsApp use end-to-end encryption. While WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, Signal emphasizes its independence.
“Signal is ad-free and free for you! As an open source project supported by grants and donations, Signal can put users first, ”reads the FAQ about this messaging service.
In essence, many people trust Signal more to protect their data. In addition to privacy, Signal offers another benefit: the ability to share images without compression.
You will have noticed, but most messaging services compress photos when they are shared (to give performance priority over image quality). However, the signal will be noticed as users can share pictures in 4K resolution.
A beta test
As reported by the Android Police website, this new feature is currently being tested in beta version 5.11.0. As per the explanations on the website, in this beta, when sharing a photo, the user will be offered to choose between the standard quality and the high quality that allows 4K images to be shared.
It goes without saying that despite the 4K release available, you can still choose the standard quality. This in fact uses less mobile data and also allows the file to be sent faster. However, in some cases you have another option when it is important to maintain the original quality of an image.
This test takes place as Signal is increasingly targeting the general public. In the past, Signal was actually seen as a niche app for journalists, activists, etc. who want the best possible protection of their data.
Currently, however, the app aims to seduce more people. And in order to achieve this goal, it has to offer more functions.
