In 2016, Chinese giant Huawei launched its brand new smartphone, a specific P9, with a photo section dubbed by the expert in the field: Leica. A strategic partnership that lasted a few years and each new generation of the Huawei flagship has been given a very advanced photo section thanks to the optimizations provided by Leica. However, the partnership has just ended and will not be renewed …
Leica soon at Xiaomi?
Indeed, after the launch of the new Huawei P50 Pro, the partnership between Huawei and Leica will end and the photography expert will be able to join another brand. Obviously, we imagine that many brands will be able to put the valuable Leica logo on the back of their future smartphones.
Leica is on the verge of signing a new partnership with Xiami, according to the former Oppo brand vice president, but Honor and Sharp are also on the move. However, the latter suggest that a brand with an orange logo is most likely to be associated with Leica. It remains to be seen which will be the first smartphone besides Huawei to proudly display a Leica logo on the back, but it will likely be a few more months.
Note that this feature, designed to entrust the photo section of a smartphone to an industry giant, is not only available to Huawei. In fact, Nokia has been linked to another photography expert in particular, Zeiss. More recently, the Chinese group OnePlus has teamed up with a certain Hasselblad to oversee the photo section of the new OnePlus 9.
There is a simple reason for this: the photo area of a smartphone has been an essential feature for all buyers of a high-end terminal for several years.
