When millionaires … want to tax Jeff Bezos

“Control the rich. Save America. This is the slogan of the atypical movement launched by the Patriotic Millionaires Group. It was founded in 2010 and, as the name suggests, brings together 200 millionaire members. It’s also impossible to enter if your annual income is less than a million dollars.

This coalition of activists has been very excited lately. She advocates a fairer tax system based on a sharp increase in taxes paid by the richest.

“He is the main beneficiary of the inequality that the tax system grants to the rich.”

To support their demands, the activists organized a demonstration in front of Jeff Bezos’ residence in New York. The latter is valued at $ 16 million, while Amazon’s president’s net worth is approaching $ 190 billion.

A spokesman for the Patriotic Millionaires, quoted by The Register, stated, “We have chosen to focus on Bezos because, as the richest man in the world, he is the main beneficiary of the inequality that our country’s tax system grants to the rich and powerful”.

In the world of tech, the group also targets Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. The activists also point out that they could soon take more targeted action against one of them in support of their demands.

The context has undoubtedly never been so promising for this struggle to take place. Indeed, Joe Biden supports a slight increase in the income tax of the richest people to 39.6% from the current 37%.

Jeff Bezos had recently discussed another tax file as well. He then said he supported the US president’s request to raise the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28% to fund his $ 2 billion infrastructure investment plan. “We understand that this investment will require concessions on all sides, both in terms of the details of what is included and in terms of how they are paid (we advocate increasing the corporate tax rate) “explained the market leader.
