Xiaomi announced the color at the beginning of the year: 2021 would be its year. The least we can say is that the Chinese giant is not idle. After the Redmi Note 10 was rejected in 3872 versions, the Redmi Note 10 in a 5G version points to the tip of the nose.
So in total there are three iterations of this model: the Redmi Note 10 Pro, the Redmi Note 10 4G and this Redmi Note 10 5G. The latter, like its brothers, is characterized by an aggressive price positioning.
It is offered for only 230 euros and has many modern technologies. In these price ranges, however, success lies in the art of making the right compromises.
With the Redmi Note 10 Pro, Xiaomi has shown the world that it is arguably the most talented manufacturer in this exercise. What about the Redmi Note 10 5G? Reaction after a few days of testing.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G price and availability
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G is available in the 4/64 GB version at a price of 230 euros. For the 4/128 GB version, which is only available in the Mi Store, Mi / com and Bouygues Telecom, 270 euros count. It is available in four colors: chrome silver, graphite gray, twilight blue and aurora green.
From May 18, 2021 to June 21, 2021, the brand will refund up to 30 euros if you buy one or more products from the Xiaomi universe from a selection of suitable products.

Cheap but stylish
Gone are the days when affordable smartphones were plastic cobblestones that broke under your fingers. The Redmi Note 10 5G may cost 230 euros, but it is still an elegant smartphone.
To cut into the fat, Xiaomi obviously had to opt for less noble materials than for its high-end models. No aluminum or glass, but a polycarbonate coating, a mixture of stronger plastics that gives the illusion of matt glass.
Xiaomi paid special attention to the lines of the smartphone: the lower and upper edges, for example, are flat, which gives it a very elegant look.
On the back the photo module is integrated in the upper left corner, on the front the flap remains discreet. We can only blame him for questionable screen integration. Indeed, the black borders surrounding the plate are too visible, especially at chin level. But let’s be honest, we fight a little.
Overall, the Redmi Note 10 5G looks good and has a comfortable grip. To make unlocking easier (and, by the way, to reduce costs), Xiaomi swaps the fingerprint reader under the screen for a sensor under the power button. It falls perfectly under the thumb (for right-handers) or index finger (for left-handers) and avoids potentially dangerous tampering.
In the little game of compromises, Xiaomi does very well on the design side. The Redmi Note 10 5G is attractive and easy to use.
The screen, its main advantage
As mentioned in the introduction, there are concessions to be made when designing an affordable smartphone. On the screen side, Xiaomi doesn’t do any. Almost.
The manufacturer prefers the flowability here rather than the inherent quality of the panel. He therefore opted for a 6.5-inch LCD screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. With AdaptiveSync technology, the smartphone can automatically switch from 60 to 90 Hz depending on the situation.

Specifically, the animations and transitions are smoother than on a classic screen and the gaming experience is more pleasant. On the other hand, the contrasts are less pronounced, the infinite black tones do not exist and the colorimetry is a bit cold.
Shall we hold it against him? Absolutely not. A small adjustment of the settings optimizes everything and uses a bright and very well calibrated screen every day. We are not asking for more.
Efficient and 5G compatible
In order to be able to offer a powerful and affordable 5G smartphone, Xiaomi had only limited leeway.
Because Qualcomm’s chips are too expensive, the manufacturer chose MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 chip, a safe bet in this price segment in 2021. It has 4GB of RAM (LPDDR4x) and 128GB of storage, which is for most User is sufficient.
The Redmi Note 10 5G therefore reacts perfectly to the most common applications every day. A bit tight for professionals and creatives, it’s a good compromise for casual gamers, as long as you accept average graphics quality.
During our few days of testing, the Redmi Note 10 5G made money without affecting our multiple requests, without overheating. For that price, it’s not bad.
Despite its thickness of less than 9 mm, the Redmi Note 10 5G has a generous 5,000 mAh battery. With the promise of a day of use on a single charge, Xiaomi appears to be way below the mark.
During our test, we were able to rely on the Redmi Note 10 5G for an average of more than a day and a half to make it versatile. By using energy saving modes, we can even achieve two days. An excellent performance, even if it is less impressive than that of the 4G model.
We’re not going to strut in front of the charging system. Xiaomi ships its smartphone with an 18 W charger that is far too short to show charging times that are described as fast. Wait 45 minutes to reach 50% and more than 1 hour and 45 minutes to fully charge the battery. So on a daily basis we apply the night shop reflex the old-fashioned way.
A sunken camera
If you’re looking for a good camera at a great price, the Redmi Note 10 5G probably won’t make you happy. Far from being bad, it mostly fishes for its lack of versatility.
To keep costs down, Xiaomi opted for a triple module consisting of a good 48Mpxl main sensor (wide angle lens 1: 1.79) and two much less shiny secondary sensors.
No telephoto or ultra wide angle, here the Redmi Note 10 has to be content with a macro lens (1: 2.4 – 2 Mpxl sensor) and a depth sensor (2 Mpxl – 1: 2, 4) to accompany the main sensor. If Xiaomi had only built in one sensor, we wouldn’t be doing so badly.
The lack of telephoto and ultra wide angle therefore limits the device’s creative potential. However, in good lighting conditions, the main sensor provides detailed, natural-looking recordings. The Redmi Note 10 5G does not work miracles at night.
If you are a portrait enthusiast, adding the depth sensor can improve the clipping and blurring of the background. The Xiaomi smartphone does not disappoint here either.
In the photo, the Redmi Note 10 5G is therefore not satisfied with much, but does it well. Enough for those who shoot occasionally. Far from the account for photography enthusiasts. The latter can instead focus on the slightly more expensive Redmi Note 10 Pro or Google’s Pixel 4a 4G, which is still a reference, but without 5G.
MIUI 12: good and bad
To accompany a fairly compelling tech sheet, Xiaomi still relies on MIUI, its home Android overlay, here in version 12.
This interface, which is also used in premium models from Xiaomi, comes closer to the “Android spirit”. The app drawer is finally available by default, the menus and settings are more logically arranged.
The inspiration from iOS still remains. The icons, animations, and the arrangement of certain elements will not disorient those drawn from the universe of the apple.
If certain elements bother us (a lot of bloatware, systematic antivirus scan, advertising during this scan) we have to realize that MIUI has grown tremendously over the years. Enough to be among the best versions of Android.

Our opinion on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G
With the Redmi Note 10 5G, Xiaomi is not reinventing the wheel. The Chinese giant is again playing the balancing act and trying to provide the bare minimum at minimal prices. With this model, it is clearly aimed at users who are looking for performance and endurance for multimedia content. All in beautiful surroundings and with 5G connectivity. Photography enthusiasts will quickly feel cramped, so we recommend other models that are more talented in this area but less so in others. At this price, you can’t work a miracle.
