The Woking company in England, McLaren, has just chosen their Elva. The extraordinary and ultra-rare runabout that he presented in 2019 can now purchase a windshield. A missing element that made the specificity of the originally planned super sports car to 399 copies, then revised to 149.
The story of the McLaren Elva is very special because after its announcement, its first customers asked the brand to review the production volume. Without a roof, window or windshield, this new model is not “exclusive” enough, they judged. The number was revised to 249 before McLaren unfortunately realized it needed a further cut.
The problem was the price of 1.7 million euros for a completely gutted car. Now customers should be able to choose the super sports car with the option. The only cost of the surgery would be to gain 20 kilograms in weight and change the style of the arch. Equipped with a windshield, the McLaren Elva looks more like a 765 LT, but remains roofless and windowless, with an exclusive paintwork and Speedster look.
One advantage: being able to drive legally
Without the car ban on the street, the excessive prices and the lack of a windshield would be nothing for American customers. In fact, certain states’ laws prohibit the car from entering traffic without protection from the projections of the road. And McLaren wants to direct some of its new orders to the USA.
This element is therefore the main reason the brand was announced this week. The car continues to carry its homemade 4.0 biturbo V8 and accelerates to 100 km / h in under 3 seconds. It just remains to be seen if Elva’s appeal doesn’t wane with the arrival of this element. Think about the price: 1.7 million euros.
