The new generation of the revised Model S and Model X were introduced in January 2021, but the delivery of the copies is long overdue. The Model S Plaid, the ultra-powerful version of the sedan, should go into series production first. The delay accumulated with an arrival in May.
Now Elon Musk is asking you to give him another week. Seven days before he reacts to the first customers and gets his models off the production line. On Twitter, the Tesla boss has even committed to June 10th by promising “a live event” on the occasion.
The reason for the delay
Since January, the automotive market has seen some difficult obstacles affecting technology in general, particularly with regard to microprocessors. At Tesla, the reason for the delay in the Model S Plaid is the arrival of the new powertrain from the famous “Palladium” project.
The latter wants to develop a dizzying acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in less than two seconds for the sedan. It will be even more powerful than the long range version and will open the ball for the next Model S Plaid + and its announced 840 kilometers of autonomy. Then the roadster should arrive with 0-100 km / h acceleration in just 1.1 seconds.
The live presentation of the first deliveries will also be the occasion to confirm the presence of an aviation steering wheel – without an upper arch. While still in the passenger compartment, new screens are being integrated into the dashboard, but also into the rear seats.
The new Tesla software is accompanied by a technical improvement, with a tablet with a graphics performance of 10 teraflops, the equivalent of a PlayStation 5. If we are to believe Tesla’s words, it will now be possible to connect a console controller and start it up AAA games.
