As part of Computex 2021, the giant AMD hosted a conference at which the group checked its various technologies and in particular its Ryzen processors and RDNA2 GPUs. Technologies primarily dedicated to gaming, both on PC and consoles … but which we will also find aboard Tesla!
Like a PS5 tune in Tesla
If the same AMD architecture is present in our powerful next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series X and PS5, the latter will also be responsible for animating the on-board console of the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X. Elon Musk has his wish To introduce video games on board its vehicles, never covertly, and we must admit that the latter does not do things by halves.
It was Lisa Su, CEO of the AMD Group, who confirmed the news and stated that the Tesla on-board consoles can thus benefit from an output of 10 Tflops! For comparison: the PS5 shows 10.28 tflops compared to 12.15 tflops for the Xbox Series X. A pretty phenomenal performance for a dashboard integrated into a production vehicle.
The Tesla Model S and Model X will become real gaming machines, as the latter integrate no less than two AMD graphics cards. The first indicates relatively “casual” games, while the second is activated when a more demanding game is started. For Tesla, of course, it is important not to use too much energy and only use the second graphics card when necessary.
The first Tesla vehicles equipped with this AMD technology will be delivered from June 10th. On the Elon Musk side, we are of course pleased to be able to offer an entertainment system “as powerful as a PS5”. It now remains to be seen which games will arrive on board the Tesla and who really wants to get into an AAA game in their car …
