A few days ago we were able to attend a complete presentation of the brand new F1 2021. Still overseen by Codemasters and now being released by Electronic Arts, this new opus in the series will be released on July 16 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but also (and for the first time) on PS5 and Xbox Series. A title eagerly awaited by many fans, of which we recently had a small preview live.
F1 2021 full of changes?
Pandemic obliges, this preview meeting of the new F1 2021 was held remotely, with the opportunity for some journalists to discover elements of the upcoming game in the company of Lee Mather, the game director of this F1 2021.
An F1 2021 that will shake up some habits, especially with the return of Scenario Mode, kicked off in F1 2019. The latter will allow the player to embody a young rookie from the paddock with various antagonists, not to mention the return from Devon Butler, introduced in F1 2019. A scripted mode interrupted by various cutscenes to get the immersion to the max.
The other good news is that this F1 2021 will be more customizable than ever. For example, if you want to concentrate on the race, you can deactivate certain (useless) elements of the career, such as interviews (phew !!) or various extras that are not necessarily useful. In addition, F1 2021 will always be open to newbies with a simplified game mode, but also offer a new expert mode for those who want a realistic and challenging experience. A very good point.
It should also be noted that it will be possible to pursue a career in solo or duo (online), with the option of playing against the two pilots of the same team or, on the contrary, competing in different tubs. The “transfers” will be there, and it will be entirely possible to break this budding friendship with your teammate in order to become the best rival in two competing teams. Friendly.
Codemasters has also developed a “Real Season Start” mode, which makes it possible to start an F1 season based on the current season. For example, when the game comes out, it will be possible to start your career with the Hungarian GP, then the game will determine the driver and manufacturer rankings according to those of “real life”. Why not.
Then what about PS5 and Xbox Series X?
Regarding F1 2021 “Next-Gen” understanding the episode cut for our PS5 and Xbox Series X, Codemasters promises that the game will benefit from notable improvements in addition to a total lack of loading time. We should therefore use better textures, higher resolution, but also valuable ray tracing. Note, however, that according to the slides displayed during the presentation, ray tracing is not available in the race (unlike the PC version of the game), only in the UI and replays. A possibility for Codemasters undoubtedly not to sacrifice the frequency (of 60 fps) in favor of some additional graphic effects. To see if it will when the game launches.
However, Codemasters has not deigned to hold a gameplay demonstration to confirm the visual difference between the PS4 / Xbox One versions and the PS5 / Xbox Series X versions. However, we do know that the game allows a free migration to the version. Next-gen (for those who buy the PS4 and Xbox One versions) but in terms of the graphical difference we will have to wait for the game to be fully tested.
Instead, Codemasters allowed us to get behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG F1 on the Barein circuit. A “work in progress” version of this new F1 2021, of course, which still allows you to discover excellent sensations, as was the case in the previous opus. To see now what the (good) elements will be that will clearly distinguish this new work from the previous one.
As for us, we wanted to interview Lee Mather about damage management on this F1 2021. The latter promised us that new mechanical parts could fail and force the player to abandon it. In relation to flat tires, these should also be better managed, with a better display on the screen, but also tires that appear “more realistic”. Keep in mind that flat tires were particularly rare in the previous opus, as was claims management fairly revealing … To be continued.
Of course, Codemasters also promises a lot of optimizations in relation to the multiplayer mode of this F1 2021, with the renewed aim of improving both the enjoyment and the comfort of the game, but it will be necessary to wait until the start of the game to know everything about the various online modes. However, the presentation we were able to attend enabled us to discover an F1 2021 that seems more ambitious, open and customizable than ever. And that’s a very good thing.
