After the Spring Loaded Event in April, at which Apple presented its new iPad Pro and the AirTag, we are now looking forward to the WWDC conference. This event, at which Apple will showcase its software innovations in particular, will take place this month of June. And usually when the conference opens on June 7th, Apple is expected to unveil new versions of its operating systems such as iOS, iPadOS, macOS, WatchOS and tvOS.
But this week, a new rumor suggests that Apple may also be able to lift the veil on a new operating system called homeOS. As usual, Apple does not officially discuss its new products prior to the presentation.
HomeOS operating system leaked in an Apple job posting (likely a bug)
Still, the company appears to have unwittingly leaked the name of this new operating system in a job posting. As reported by the 9to5Mac site, this job posting mentions the homeOS platform that we have never heard of.
Specifically, according to Cnet.com, the post would read: “You work with system engineers from Apple, get to know the inner workings of iOS, watchOS, tvOS and homeOS and optimize your code for performance in a way that only Apple can. Become part of our team and make a real difference to music lovers around the world (note, this is a job offer for the Apple Music team). “
We would also read further: “The Apple Music Frameworks team has the technology stack that integrates the Apple Music experience on all of our mobile platforms: iOS, watchOS and homeOS. “
In any case, it was not a question of voluntary teasing, since according to 9to5Mac at the time of writing this article, the mentions of homeOS had already been replaced.
A new operating system for new Apple products?
But what could it be? Unfortunately we have to be patient as Apple has not yet commented on this bug. Nonetheless, it should be noted that previously rumors of a new category of Apple products were circulating.
In April, we published an article from Bloomberg stating that Apple will create a product that will have a camera for calls that will combine the capabilities of the HomePod and Apple TV. Another product would be a speaker that comes with a touchscreen, similar to Google’s Nest Hubs or Amazon’s Echo Show.
Let’s wait for the WWDC!
Of course, all this information should be treated with caution at the moment. Still, it is possible that “homeOS” is a new operating system developed by Apple to run these new products.
Still, 9to5Mac also points out that homeOS may just be a name Apple uses internally to refer to the operating system already used by HomePod speakers without a display. It is therefore also possible that this leak does not indicate the imminent start of a new operating system.
Fortunately, we should be fixed in a few days. As a reminder, Apple’s WWDC conference will be held June 7-11. We should learn more about the company’s new projects during this conference, which is 100% virtual due to the pandemic.
